Highlights of industrial culture - scenic hike through the north of Duisburg
Start at the gatehouse of the landscape park on Emscherstraße, walk left along the rails to the underpass, behind it right and left the Emscher to the A 59 motorway. Climb the hill for a view, then down the metal ramp and across the honey road. Turn left, pass under the railway tracks, turn left into Sandbrück Street. Turn left into Neanderstraße, continue into Stockumer Straße, left into Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, up the stairs, parallel to the railway tracks to the right until you reach a small park. Keep right, through the park, turn left, right, right at the T-junction, then left down the steps. Turn left into Meerbergstraße until you reach the Rhine dike.
Follow the Rhine dike to the right to the Alsumer Berg, at low tide below the dike through the Rhine meadows. Climb the Alsumer Berg (70m), down and left. Turn right onto Alsumer Straße, then right onto the cycle and hiking trail. Continue to the Alte Emscher, along through the Thyssen Krupp steelworks. Behind the steelworks, turn left into Nattenbergshof, left into Heckershof. Cross Friedrich-Ebert-Straße, left of the motorway exit into the hiking trail, straight ahead to Arnold-Overbeck-Straße. Turn right into Kronstraße, right into the hiking trail to Dieselstraße. Turn right, cross the railway tracks, right into the city forest of Hamborn. Cross the forest, cross Hamborner Straße, straight ahead into the Botanical Garden.
Keep to the right, leave the southern exit, turn right into Beecker Straße, left into Hamborner Straße. Turn left onto the grounds of the Landscape Park, keep left, left again, up to the "Monte Schlacko" viewpoint. Descend a bit, left the stairs to Sinterplatz, slightly left, cross the Emscher and the bunker forecourt, right along the bunker pockets, left through the ore bunkers, cross Cowperplatz and return to the main entrance.
