Rare animals, old walls and a ride on the Rhine ferry

Start at the hiking car park at the end of Königstraße near the old lift bridge. Follow the path north to the Rhine dike and stay on the dike for about 2 km. After a while you will see a farm on your right. Take a sharp right and leave the dike. Walk straight ahead through the Rheinaue. At the end, turn right and follow the path to Kaiserstraße. Follow the road and after a while turn right into Königstraße, walk past your starting point and over the lift bridge. Walk down Rheinstraße to the ferry dock of the Walsum-Orsoy Rhine ferry. Take the ferry across the Rhine and walk on the other side via the ferry road to Orsoy. Behind the city gate, turn right up onto the Wallpromenadenring, which leads around the small town. From Ostwall, go to the street "An der Schanz" and turn right into Friedrichsplatz. Here you will find a snack bar and Café Hagemann. Go back through the city gate to the Rhine ferry and on the other side of the Rhine up to the hiking car park.
