Duisburger 8: The Nordschleife - Water and Fire!

Start your tour at the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park and cycle along the Green Trail to Meiderich. There, the Nordschleife leads you through residential areas. You pass a training ground of MSV Duisburg and reach the Rhine-Herne Canal. After a small climb, a bridge leads over the canal. The route runs along various bodies of water and crosses the Ruhr. At the Kasslerfeld roundabout, the route goes over the Karl-Lehr-Brückenzug to Ruhrort. Cross the district and enjoy the harbor promenade. At the Mühlenweide you cross the Rhine on the Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke. After crossing, follow Rheindeichstraße and turn into Dammstraße. Now you cycle through the Rheinaue to the Rhine bridge of the A 42 in the direction of Halde Rheinpreußen. A climb is worth it for the view. The Nordschleife takes you through Baerl via Binsheim to Orsoy. There the ferry will take you to Walsum. The route continues past the Walsum power plant to the HOAG factory railway line. A detour to Walsum's Südhafen is worthwhile. The HOAG route takes you through several districts. At the Wehofen colliery settlement you leave the route and ride to the Revierpark Mattlerbusch and the Kleine Emscher. Follow the Kleine Emscher and then turn right. The Nordschleife takes you through the Bergmannsplatz settlement and a pedestrian zone. At the end, turn left, then right along the main road. Through an industrial area you reach the Green Path, which leads you back to the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park.
