Six Lakes Plate
The area, which covers more than 280 hectares, is one of the most popular recreational areas in all of North Rhine-Westphalia. Wambachsee, Masurensee, Böllertsee, Wolfssee, Wildförstersee and Haubachsee are the names of the bodies of water that make up the Sechs-Seen-Platte. What makes the Six Lakes Plateau so special? Just a stone's throw from the noisy life of a Ruhr metropolis with its industry and highways, the visitor is immersed in a completely different world. Forests and lakes dominate the landscape, here people can find peace and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A network of 25 kilometers of walking trails promises a soothing break from urban hustle and bustle.
At the same time, the recreational opportunities here are unlimited: If you want to swim, you can swim. If you want to sail, you can sail. Stand-up paddling, horseback riding trails, barbecue areas and places for fishing complete the wide range of possibilities. All around there are some catering establishments that invite you to stop for a bite to eat. Of course, on hot days it is a bit more turbulent - there is a 450-meter-long sandy beach at Wolfssee - but due to the size of the area, everyone has the opportunity to escape this hustle and bustle even in summer.
