Panoramic view without a peak

Struck by lightning in 1885, the Ochsenturm lost its spire. The nave was also demolished and the bells relocated. Today, the tower is a viewing platform with a view of the port of Bremerhaven and the North Sea coast. If you don't want to climb the steps to the viewing platform on the tower, you also have a wonderful view of the Weser estuary from below.

The lütte (Low German for "small") beacon quickly won the hearts of Wremer residents and holidaymakers alike. The lighthouse is a new "old" landmark that gives the harbor a bit of additional maritime flair. And, from there you have an excellent view of the Weser estuary. The lighthouse is also a branch of the Wurster Nordseeküste registry office, so you can also say "I do" in the Little Prussia!

Where the Elbe ends...

...and the North Sea begins. In order to make this geographically important point visible, a fire used to burn in the Kugelbake at night and thus served as an orientation aid for sailors. Today, the Kugelbake has lost its actual significance, as modern radar piloting has taken over its task. Nevertheless, the Kugelbake is still a popular destination for excursions, because it marks the northernmost point of Lower Saxony and is a protected monument. Incidentally, the emigrants who used to set out from Cuxhaven on their sea journey to America often took the sight of the Kugelbake with them on their way as a last reminder of their homeland.

Travel like in imperial times

Glide weightlessly over the river - it was not for nothing that the filigree giant from the imperial era was marveled at as the "eighth wonder of the world" when it opened in 1909. On a gondola suspended under the scaffolding, you float over the 80-metre-wide Oste and experience a breathtaking airship feeling. The ferry operates daily from April to October, other times can be booked by arrangement. For car enthusiasts, the crossing in a historic car with an H license plate is a special highlight. The transporter bridge is part of the German Ferry Route and an important part of the region's history and culture.

Marvel at pots from all over the world

The Alte Liebe is indeed old: The two-story wooden structure was built in 1733 - as a jetty and breakwater. In fact, ships still leave from the Alte Liebe today for the islands of Neuwerk and Helgoland and the seal banks. Above all, however, people meet on the Alte Liebe to marvel at the big ships from all over the world that pass by here very close by. During the day from April to October - between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. - the Ship Announcement Service Cuxhaven e. V. informs guests on the "Alte Liebe" about the size, origin and destination of the passing ships.

Not only is this majestic lighthouse virtually unique as a true-to-original sea mark from the end of the 19th century, it also makes an excellent photo opportunity and offers an indescribable view of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. The lighthouse, which is now a monument, can be climbed via an external staircase. And it's hard to believe: the Obereversand lighthouse has only been standing on the Dorum coast since 2003. Before that, it was exposed to the wind and waves for over 100 years - it was born in 1886 in the middle of the Wadden Sea, 40 kilometers away from its current location.

Explore the Hagen King's Moor

After the end of industrial peat cutting (1971-1996), the Königsmoor was restored to its original state in its core area of about 90 hectares by rewetting in 1999. A natural area that was thought to have been lost was thus preserved. A circular path leads through the moor, where you can experience the fascinating nature up close in about 2 hours. Here you will find information boards about the flora and fauna of the Königsmoor, which explain this unique landscape with rare plants and animals in more detail. There is also an observation tower from which you have a magnificent view of the surrounding nature. A good entry point to the trail is the Burg zu Hagen or from the Möhlenstroot.

Surrounded by mysterious moorland landscapes, the Große Moor Bokel opens up a fascinating world in which specific plant species can survive. The one-kilometre nature trail leads to the Schautorfstich and the Bokel observation tower, from where you have a wonderful view of nature. Along the way, benches invite you to linger and rest. Many interesting things can be expected along the way. Information boards provide information about the flora and fauna and the history of the moor and invite you to take a closer look and observe.

The viewing platform is located at an altitude of around 90 meters above sea level, offering a sweeping view across the Elbe as far as Schleswig-Holstein. This idyllic beach has grown naturally through sand deposits and creates a natural bathing area with a direct connection to the sailing port through the surrounding reed belt. The surrounding area is characterized by salt marshes and dikes, which invite to extensive walks but also sunbathing. By the way: Sanitary facilities in the form of mobile toilets are available in the immediate vicinity during the season. Since it is not an officially designated bathing place, there is no DLRG guard here. Cape Jacob is a natural beach, so you will come across one or the other marine debris, e.g. driftwood. Bathing at this natural beach is at your own risk. With the guest card you also have free access to the beach.
