The memory of the city

Here, the more than 4,000-year history of human settlement in the city area can be traced. Witnesses to the town's history, from archaeological finds from Roman times to the evening dress of Günzburg opera singer Diana Damrau, are presented on over 600 square meters. A new feature is the Imperial Gallery: Roman coins found in Günzburg are the starting point for a gallery of Roman emperors depicted on the coins. Not only the originals can be admired: It also reveals how coins were used in the Roman Empire for the emperor's propaganda.Günzburg was part of the Habsburg Empire from 1301 to 1805. Even though this formative period of Günzburg's history is still most impressively reflected in the townscape and architecture today, the museum displays a variety of objects from the areas of everyday life, furniture, art and folklore that bring this period to life.
