Living within their own three walls
For cost reasons, the poorer citizens built their houses directly along the city wall (= fourth wall) and were also satisfied with small plots of land. In order to create a little more living space, the façades on the upper floors were cantilevered by the width of a beam. Underneath the plaster is a simple half-timbered construction, the compartments of which are filled with wooden wattle and daub.
