Time travel through the history of printing
Since the mid-1970s, it has accumulated an impressive collection on typesetting and printing. On around 600 m², the Printing Museum presents the rapid technological and socio-historical development of the last 200 years: from Gutenberg's manual typesetting with angle hooks, toggle lever and pull-off press to the machine set with typographer and linotype to the photo and computer typesetting of our day. In addition to typesetting, image processing is shown using repro photography and scanner technology. The letterpress presses in the machine room are all fully functional, which is proven again and again during printing demonstrations - from the Heidelberg Crucible to the Frankenthal Rapid Press. A circular motion machine from 1879 from Koenig & Bauer in Würzburg is the undisputed star among the iron giants. It impresses with its machine aesthetics alone. A bookbindery and a small exhibition unit on offset printing round off the presentation, which offers information not only for trade visitors. At individual information terminals, museum guests can find out about the working methods of the exhibits independently of the regular print demonstrations.
