Elektro Museum

A journey through time through electrification

In the former administration building of Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG (SH Netz) there are numerous rarities, including the electric razor that the "singing actor" Hans Albers donated to the museum after his visit in 1948. You can also admire a darning egg illuminated from the inside, which Chancellor Konrad Adenauer had invented, but – as has often been said – did not patent. The range of exhibits is wide: In addition to the smallest tube radio in the world at the time, the "Knirps" by Wobbe, or a self-carved power plug made of wood, you can also discover a melon in the museum. The exhibition, which was conceived by Kiel University, is dedicated to both the technical changes and the social effects of Art Nouveau. In the living, music and children's rooms, lovingly furnished with exhibits from the time, as well as in the laundry room and in the men's room, you can experience Art Nouveau in all its facets. Not only is the permanent exhibition worth a visit, but the building itself, which was built in 1920, is also impressive. The imposing brick building was designed by the architect and master builder Fritz Höger († 1949). The Schleswig-Holsteiner is considered one of the leading representatives of North German brick expressionism.
