Lüneburg
Panoramic view from historic height
The observation tower with its historic facade and modern technology in the heart of Lüneburg is a truly impressive experience. On the observation deck at a height of 56 meters, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. The historic old town with its red roofs and small alleys shows its most beautiful side, while on a clear day you can see as far as the Harburg mountains.
Access to the platform is via a barrier-free elevator and 20 steps. But the water tower is not only a place with a spectacular view, it is also a museum with a fascinating permanent exhibition about water, wastewater, climate change and the consequences of water scarcity for the region.
The tower's architecture, inspired by the 15th-century Uenglinger Tor in Stendal, is a masterpiece of engineering and design. The star-shaped floor plan with 16 massive buttresses provides the necessary statics in case of massive leaking water or falling water tanks. The facade of the tower is beautifully decorated with turrets, battlements and lancet windows and reminds of a small fairy-tale castle in the heart of the city.
The water tower Lüneburg also offers an event location with changing exhibitions, regular student tours, music, cabaret and full moon nights with cultural program.
