Mysterious haven of peace in history
Between 1842 and 1847, the mausoleum was built for Queen Friederike and King Ernst August according to plans by the court architect Laves. The building, which is owned by the Prince of Hanover, is not open to the public for reasons of piety.
The reconstruction of the Leine Castle in 1957 made it necessary to transfer eight more princes to the mausoleum, including the Electress Sophie and George I, King of England. The building is framed by mighty, over 150-year-old pedunculate oaks.
