Augsburg
World Heritage-worthy fountain figures
The Maximilian Museum, housed in two patrician palaces of the Renaissance period, presents Augsburg's cultural history: sculptures, Augsburg silver, scientific instruments and clocks, porcelain and faience as well as a collection of city history. One section provides information with building models of Augsburg's municipal utility master Elias Holl, the architect of the town hall and numerous other Renaissance buildings. Hydrotechnical functional and instructional models of water towers, pumping stations and mills, locks and weirs from the period from the 16th to the 19th century are exhibits from the Augsburg Model Chamber, which is unique in the world. In the glass-roofed courtyard are the original bronze figures of the Augustus, Mercury and Hercules fountains - each UNESCO World Heritage Site. The original of the fountain figure of the Neptune Fountain is in a room next door.
