Deutsches Schallplattenmuseum
Unique sounds of the past
Telefunken Schallplatten GmbH (TELDEC) opened a record company in a former leather factory in 1948. There, records were produced with a leather press. These included gold records for Peter Maffay. A total of around 850 million records were pressed in Nortorf. When the company closed in 1989, the museum association was founded, which campaigned for the establishment of a museum in Nortorf. It was finally opened in the same year. The museum shows the development of the record from its beginnings on shellac records to LPs and CDs, but also detours to Tefifon, tape and music cassette can be found in the extensive collection. The Förderverein Museum Nortorf has put an old record press back into operation in the old boiler house of the former Teldec Press record factory.
