Schloßviertel

Above the rooftops of the city

The highlight of the Schloßviertel is certainly the Schloßberg Museum, perched on the mountain. As a museum of urban history, it is naturally located in a historic building: first a monastery and founding site of the city, then a hunting lodge and today an exhibition space - the history behind the place is at least as exciting as that of the unique collection. From the terrace of the Miramar restaurant up here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the castle pond and toward the city center. Below the old Benedictine monastery are the oldest preserved residential buildings in the city. You should bring time and appetite for this, because the restaurants in the houses are worth a culinary break. In the pretty half-timbered houses, guests who like it cozy and traditional will get their money's worth. From hearty to modern, you'll find everything you could possibly want. The adjacent Küchwald forest with its park railroad, garden railroad and cosmonaut center is ideal for a short digestive walk after a meal. In summer, events take place on the Küchwald stage.
