walk in historic spa facilities

The premises of the Romantik Bad Rehburg are also home to the tourist information office of the city of Rehburg-Loccum. Idyllically situated between two mountain ridges and framed by a beautiful forest backdrop, lies the best-preserved royal spa from the Romantic period in Germany. Its origins date back to 1690, when the healing properties of the local springs were first mentioned in a document. Especially between 1750 and 1850, the spa town, then known as the "Madeira of the North", attracted the Hanoverian aristocracy to Bad Rehburg. Even the Hanoverian royal family spent their spa stays here "for health and pleasure". During this time, the Gesundbrunnen was developed into a magnificent spa complex: bathhouses, spa hotels, a foyer, the spa gardens, a chapel and a variety of walking paths along secluded vantage points were built in the surrounding area. The park and building ensemble itself, built between 1750 and 1850, is worth seeing. Above all, the early classicist New Bathhouse (built 1778 to 1786), the Wandelhalle (1843/44) with historically glazed veranda and colonnade, the Friederiken Chapel (1841/42), the former fountain house (1753), as well as parts of the old spa gardens and the historic forest promenades, which stretch over a length of 34 km through the Rehburg mountains. In the 12 former bath cabinets of the "New Bathhouse" of the historic spa complex, the topics of wellness & cure, the Romantic era and the history of the spa are conveyed in an entertaining way in a fresh design. Guests can also become active themselves, e.g. by trying their hand at being a Romantic artist on a canvas or making a paper cut (or a selfie) to send it to a good friend. At listening stations, guests can listen to poems or pieces of music from the Romantic period, among other things. There will also be reports from "fountain pastors" from the 18th and 19th centuries on the "hustle and bustle at the Rehburg fountain" – read by the pastors Michael Kalla and Joachim Diestelkamp from Rehburg-Loccum. With the help of selected exhibits, flipbooks and digital presentations, visitors can get an idea of the special, eventful history of the former royal health resort. Furthermore, there is a small "spa laboratory" in which the topics of water and wellness are taken up and which invites you to experiment. Other attractions include changing art exhibitions as well as a year-round cultural programme in the historic event space. Guided tours of the museum and the promenades are possible at any time by appointment. The tourist information office of the city of Rehburg-Loccum is located in the Wandelhalle. At the tourist information office, guests can obtain brochures about sights, leisure activities and events in Rehburg-Loccum and the surrounding area. Guided tours can be booked here and gifts and postcards are offered. In the foyer of the Romantik Bad Rehburg there are public toilets including a toilet for people with disabilities, which can be reached during the opening hours of the tourist information. Registry office: The historic spa complex offers a wonderful ambience for romantic weddings. In the surrounding spa gardens, unique wedding photos can be taken. The restaurant "Carpe Diem" prepares culinary delicacies for your wedding celebration in a stylish setting and you can spend your wedding night in the Parkhotel Bad Rehburg (information: registry office Rehburg-Loccum, Tel. 05027-970137).
