Max sien Steenstuv Museum Brammer

Discover fascinating finds and history

By chance, Max Beeckens, who was 15 years old at the time, got a stone axe caught in his hay rake. With this find, Max Beeckens began to collect archaeological finds. He passed on his passion for collecting artifacts to his daughter Ute. Max Beeckens' later son-in-law, Max Sievers, had been involved in completing the collection since 1968. Max Sievers completed his father-in-law's life's work by building the "Max sien Steenstuv" museum. This is located in a converted cowshed that serves as an exhibition venue. The museum comprises around 9000 exhibits that have been collected over decades. The collection consists of a wide variety of Stone Age tools, such as scrapers, axes, hatchets or arrowheads, which are presented expertly and sometimes even hands-on. The finds come from the near and far surroundings of Brammerau. The two oldest finds, these are two spearheads, are around 12000 years old.  Ute and Max Sievers have made the finds from prehistory and early history accessible to the public through the museum. Due to its direct location on the Ochsenweg, it offers cyclists the opportunity for spontaneous sightseeing if Ute and Max Sievers are at home, advance registration by telephone is requested. School classes and larger groups must register in advance.
