On the limited, almost square surface of two low door leaves, Weber used an elaborate casting process to create a high-contrast composition, distributed over different relief thicknesses and room depths. The artist had set himself the subject, as well as its formal and motivic implementation: interwoven with more than 500 human figures, Weber embeds the history of Göttingen – including the founding of the university – in the history of Central Europe.
