The power of water

Originally, Mercury was to become the fountain's leading figure. However, thanks to the cholera epidemic, Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, purity and hygiene, finally made the running. Depicted is the purifying power of water and the victory over the cholera epidemic by a defeated dragon at the feet of the goddess.
