LWL-Römermuseum
Time travel to Roman times
The Romans left clear traces in Haltern am See and the surrounding area. In the time of Emperor Augustus, Haltern was considered an important military camp with numerous important facilities. During the search for traces, the researchers have already been able to trace a main camp and the camp suburb and thus draw important conclusions about the Romans' way of life. The location on the River Lippe and the proximity to Germania explain the important strategic position of the camp. It is not for nothing that Haltern played an important role in the famous Varus Battle.
The museum shows in a vivid and modern way how the Romans went about their daily lives and how world history was written at the same time. The exhibits invite visitors to join in and be amazed. The Aliso Roman construction site at the back of the museum is well worth a visit.
