Aussichtsturm am Mötjenpolder
Breathtaking view of the Mötjenpolder
The Lundener Niederung is a nature reserve of around 900 hectares. The lowland area includes the Krempeler Moor, the adjoining Mötjenpolder and the Mötjensee and the former Steller See as well as the areas in between. The two lakes are former beach lakes, which have since silted up or are in the process of silting up, which had formed between a former spit in the west and the Geest ridge in the east. The nature reserve is of great importance for meadow and migratory birds. Among other things, goshawk, greylag goose, black-tailed godwit, lapwing, reed warbler and skylark are native here. Resting birds include curlew, whooper swan and barnacle goose. The white stork visits the area as a feeding guest. The entire complex is the habitat of the moor frog and other amphibians. The nature reserve also offers a suitable habitat for the otter. The nature reserve can be experienced on cycling, hiking and bridle paths.
