Eastern modernism in Chemnitz

With 80 percent of the city centre destroyed by the war, not much was left of its once magnificent architecture, which was characterized above all by prestigious buildings and numerous alleyways. The prompt reconstruction and restoration of some buildings - such as the Siegert House on Marktplatz or the Opera House on Theaterplatz - meant that today countless architectural styles can be found along the Street of Nations.
