University Square

To the west of the city centre rises the academic centre of Halle (Saale): Universitätsplatz. Majestic lion sculptures are enthroned here, which gave its name to the first building on the square: the Lion Building and main building of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Here today is the University Museum, which has more to say about one of the oldest German universities. Over time, other buildings were built, including the Juridicum, Robertinum and the modern Audimax. Not only for many students, the square is a popular and sociable center of life. On the open staircase people meet to chat or to visit the canteen together.
