Jena
Schiller's historical refuge
Schiller's garden house in Jena is a place where cultural history comes alive. The poet, historian and philosopher Friedrich Schiller lived and worked here for ten years, creating important works such as "Wallenstein", "Maria Stuart" and "The Maid of Orleans". The three-storey garden house, the reconstructed garden, the garden pinnacle and the kitchen house offer an insight into Schiller's life. The oval stone table, at which Schiller and Goethe often sat, is a particular attraction. Today, the garden house serves as a venue for lectures, book presentations, discussions and artistic exhibitions that shed light on culture around 1800 and topics relating to the history of the university and the city.
