The shell belongs to the wine village of Oberdollendorf like the grape to the vine. The hill was actually supposed to be called Helle, in reference to the rocky Hellweg, which had led steeply down from the small clearing for centuries. This is where the Germanic storm and light god Wodan descended into the valley on the holy nights of the winter solstice. Later, the procession of lights in honour of St. Martin climbed up this path to light the traditional fire on the plateau. Even though the Hellweg has disappeared today, you can still enjoy the magnificent panoramic view over the Siebengebirge and the Rhine to Bonn. The refuge "Rheinblick" invites you to take a short break. If you want to go further up on your hike, you can find the connecting routes to the Hardt here. A special experience is the sunset in the middle of the vineyards. The landscape is bathed in a golden light and creates a unique atmosphere. The wayside chapel on Hartenbergstraße, also known as Heiligenhäuschen, is a special place that you should definitely visit. It was built around 1905 and impresses with its rectangular structure, the gable roof and the barrel vault. The quarry stone altar and the grave cross, which date from the 18th century, give it a historical atmosphere. The location of the chapel is particularly beautiful. From here you can enjoy a wide view of Siegburg, over Oberpleis and over to the Großer Oelberg, which shapes the striking silhouette of the Siebengebirge. An old lime tree offers you shade and protection here. The Heiligenhäuschen is not only a quiet place to linger, but also a popular meeting place for model aircraft enthusiasts and hikers. If you take the chapel hike, which connects 12 chapels in the Pleiser Hügelland, you will be able to take a welcome break here.

The Großer Oelberg, 460 meters high, is the highest mountain in the Siebengebirge and characterizes the landscape almost as strikingly as the Löwenburg. On the top of the mountain, a forest restaurant awaits you, which is unique in the Rhineland. The panoramic view at sunrise and sunset behind the skyline of Bonn is absolutely worth seeing. The steep ascent offers you more spectacular views far into the country along the way. The cathedral in Cologne can almost always be seen and makes the effort more than worthwhile.

Local historians believe that the Drachenfels got its name because of its dangerous and threatening-looking slope towards the Rhine. Drachenfels could originally have been called threatening rock. More likely, however, is the legend of the dragon on the Drachenfels, who is said to have lived in his dragon cave at the front of the mountain facing the Rhine.
