Hamelin
Experience Hamelin's magnificent building
The Leisthaus, which is home to the Hamelin Museum, is one of the most famous houses in Hamelin's old town and is one of the most magnificent buildings of the Weser Renaissance. It is located in Osterstraße directly in the pedestrian zone. It was built by Cord Tönis for the patrician and grain merchant Gerd Leist in 1585/89. Parts of the features of the late Weser Renaissance richly designed decorated façade have been preserved in their original form. The painting of the wall surfaces with brick structure was carried out after the findings of the last restoration. The museum houses a permanent exhibition on the history of Hamelin, the Pied Piper saga, the mechanical Pied Piper Theatre and changing exhibitions.
