The comeback of the rats: Hameln's legendary sculptures return!

In 2004, Hameln celebrated the 720th anniversary of the Pied Piper legend. To mark this anniversary, 65 imaginatively designed rat sculptures came to our city for the big rat festival. Artists from all over Germany created the rats with a variety of themes and they were an integral part of our cityscape for almost half a year. After the festival, the rats were auctioned off. Some stayed in Hameln and can still be found in various places today: whether in the city center, in front of shops or on private property, each rat is unique and tells its own story. Note: Many sculptures are open to the public, others are on private property and can only be viewed from the outside - please take this into account on your discovery tour and respect privacy.
