Quadruple outlook
This bronze plate in the street pavement exactly at the corner of Kornmarkt/Markt shows the location from which all four inner city churches can be seen. These are St. Johannis in the west, St. Jacobi in the north, St. Albani in the east and St. Michael in the south. In the row of buildings on the south side of the market square stood the oldest guild house in Göttingen from 1251, the "Schuhhof". Below it is a Gothic vaulted cellar, which today houses a restaurant.

Still presented as an idea in 2008, the Kunstquartier Göttingen - or "KuQua" for short - has developed in the historic city center. Its centerpiece, the Kunsthaus Göttingen, has been open since summer 2021. The exhibition house for contemporary art hosts three to four solo or group exhibitions a year with works by nationally and internationally renowned artists.

Bismarck's student residence
This little house is the last remaining rampart tower from 1459 - a remnant of the city's outer fortifications. It got its name because the later Chancellor of the Reich Otto von Bismarck lived in Göttingen for about half a year during his studies in 1833. One of Göttingen's memorial plaques commemorates this time. Today, a small museum has been set up in the tower in his memory, where you can also visit his study.

The building was built in 1888/89 by court architect Gerhard Schnitger based on the model of the Grand Ducal Court Theatre in Oldenburg. It was renamed Deutsches Theater in 1950 under the artistic director Heinz Hilpert. As the largest of Göttingen's theatres, it offers a repertoire on four stages. The Big House has just under 500 seats.

Commemoration of the Göttingen Synagogue

The cabaret "Die Arche" offers humorous satirical programs, most of which are written by its own (permanent) ensemble, but which also include texts by authors from other places. The plays are usually accompanied by music. Harald Richter and Fernando Blumenthal have alternated as directors since 2000. The cabaret puts on around 280 performances a year with 2-3 new productions, meaning that there are always 8-10 changing plays on the program.
