Wolfenbüttel
Half-timbering, Lessing and Jägermeister
These three are outstanding and characteristic for Wolfenbüttel. Half-timbered houses determine the cityscape: With about 1000 half-timbered houses, the old town is almost completely preserved and lovingly renovated - this can be easily observed from here. The poet and Enlightenment philosopher Gotthold Ephraim Lessing lived and worked in Wolfenbüttel for the last 11 years of his life. Even today, some of his places of work are preserved and invite you to visit them.
And the famous herbal liqueur? It comes from Wolfenbüttel. Always, and still today. That's what it says on every bottle, by the way. Of course, Wolfenbüttel is much more. Over 900 years of town history are waiting to be discovered.
