Mannheim
Baroque splendour and quiet moments
"Exclamation mark of God" within sight of Mannheim Castle. When you enter the Jesuit church, you automatically hold your breath - that's how magnificent the interior of the Catholic parish church is. The interior, which was designed by Paul Egell and Peter Anton von Verschaffelt, among others, is rich in baroque works of art, such as the high altar and the ceiling fresco. Also impressive is the baroque exterior of the church, which was designed by Alessandro Galli Bibiena on the model of the mother church "Il Gesù" in Rome. Together with the castle, the armoury and the old observatory, it gives the city its baroque face.
TIP: Schillerplatz is located in the immediate vicinity of the Jesuit Church. In summer, you can relax on the lawn in the small green area after visiting the castle and church or, if the weather is bad, recharge your batteries in one of the surrounding cafés.
