Il Lundener Niederung è una riserva naturale di circa 900 ettari. L'area di pianura comprende la brughiera di Krempeler, l'adiacente Mötjenpolder e il Mötjensee e l'ex Steller See, nonché le aree intermedie. I due laghi sono ex laghi da spiaggia, che da allora si sono insabbiati o sono in procinto di insabbiarsi, che si erano formati tra una ex lingua di terra a ovest e la cresta di Geest a est. La riserva naturale è di grande importanza per gli uccelli migratori e dei prati. Tra le altre cose, qui sono nativi l'astore, l'oca selvatica, la pittima reale, la pavoncella, la cannaiola e l'allodola. Gli uccelli a riposo includono chiurli, cigni selvatici e oca cirripedi. La cicogna bianca visita l'area come ospite per nutrirsi. L'intero complesso è l'habitat della rana di palude e di altri anfibi. La riserva naturale offre anche un habitat adatto per la lontra. La riserva naturale può essere vissuta su piste ciclabili, escursionistiche e mulattiere.
