Château d’Etelsen avec parc du château
Construit en 1886 dans le style néo-Renaissance*, le château d’Etelsen a connu une histoire mouvementée. Le Schlossparkverein Etelsen e.V. s’est donné pour mission de préserver le château, qui est important bien au-delà du district de Verden, et le parc du château d’environ 10 hectares avec sa flore et sa faune, qui est un bâtiment classé.
Le parc du château, situé à Etelsen sur le versant de la Weser, a été modernisé vers 1900 par l’inspecteur de la promenade ducale Friedrich Kreiß de Brunswick pour le compte du comte danois Christian zu Reventlow. L’architecte du mausolée néogothique était le célèbre maître d’œuvre Conrad Wilhelm Hase. Sur plus de 4 km de sentiers de randonnée, les visiteurs peuvent profiter de la diversité de la nature lors de longues promenades. De tous les côtés du château, des éléments architecturaux et des structures définissent l’aspect jardin du vaste parc. Un ovale devant le bâtiment du château, décoré de parterres de roses et d’une fontaine, accueille encore aujourd’hui les visiteurs. Derrière le château, commence la vaste prairie du parc, à laquelle on accède par des sentiers sinueux. Des groupes d’arbres de plus en plus petits interrompent la zone et créent une connexion avec la zone du parc aux allures de forêt, où se trouve un mausolée. Selon les cas, les formes proviennent principalement du répertoire de la Renaissance italienne ou principalement de la Renaissance allemande ou de la Renaissance nordique du XVIe siècle.
