A look into the past

With its hand placed on its forehead to protect it from the sun, the Bruckmandl has been enthroned above the Danube since the Middle Ages and looks south. This emblematic landmark invites you to enjoy the history and scenic views from one of the oldest bridges. Legend has it that the master builder of the cathedral and the builder of the Stone Bridge made a bet as to who would be the first to complete his work. The bridge builder enlisted the help of the devil, to whom he promised the three souls who would cross the bridge first. But the builder wanted to outwit the devil and drove three animals across the bridge. This enraged the devil so much that he wanted to destroy the bridge, but could only raise it. At this point, it is today the Bruckmandl.
