Wattwanderung - Der Wattschnack
Seehundbank XXL
With a practiced eye, you can see the seal bank from the dike and with a clear view. When the water runs out, a large sandbank emerges. Several animals gather there to rest. From the end of May until August, the seals give birth to their young here, suckle them and soak up plenty of sun for their moulting. In front of it is a tidal creek, the border to the rest zone, so that the seals can raise their young undisturbed. The distance is large enough, but you can still observe them well in their natural environment. The tidal creek behind it is navigable, with a bit of luck a shrimp cutter will pass by, on its way to the North Sea.
Footwear is mandatory:
Old sneakers, mudflats that fit well. Boots are no good. Adapt clothing to the weather. Think about sun protection, drinking, maybe eating some fresh fruit or something else.
In winter: dress warmly, waders would be quite good or like me, short and neoprene shoes. Gloves and hat.
