Wiesbaden's oldest building
Today, the "Heidenmauer" offers a fascinating historical experience. While it was long thought to be part of a defensive structure, it is more recently believed to be a section of a Roman aqueduct dating back to the third century AD that piped water from the Taunus Heights into the city.
The Römertor (Roman Gate), built in 1902 when the historic wall was broken through, is now a covered wooden bridge that connects the past and the present.
Next to the Roman Gate is the Roman Open Air Museum, which displays copies of stone tablets from the Roman period found in Wiesbaden. This museum allows visitors to experience Roman history up close.
