Schlosskirche
Time travel through art
The medieval architecture of the castle church, restored in 2004, offers the appropriate setting for the presentation of sacred art and cultural assets owned by the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation and other lenders. Visitor magnets of the castle church are the colourful windows by Georg Meistermann and the baroque princely tombs.
The exhibition includes works from the 13th to the 19th century. They are linked and made tangible in various thematic strands, for example the importance of liturgy and piety in everyday life over the last eight centuries as well as the development and function of sacred art of the Middle Ages and the early modern period.
In addition to changing exhibitions, concerts at the University of Music also take place regularly. The Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation also uses the Castle Church as a venue for cultural events.
Every Sunday at 4:00 p.m., public guided tours alternately in the Museum in the Castle Church, in the Old Collection and in the Museum of Prehistory and Early History. Public tours are free of charge.
