Above the treetops
All those who are looking for a very special view of Leipzig can enjoy it from the observation tower in the Rosental. Surrounded by the Leipzig floodplain forest, the green lung of the city, the observation tower offers a breathtaking view over treetops, parks and the skyline of Leipzig.
The 20m-high tower is affectionately known as the "Wackelturm" by Leipzigers, as it sways back and forth on windy days. After a walk in the greenery and in good weather, the climb up the numerous steps is worth it and is rewarded with a new perspective and a wide view over Leipzig and the region. From here, many Leipzig sights can be spied.
The lookout tower is somewhat hidden in the floodplain forest near the Marienweg and the sewage treatment plant at the Pathe

Hidden Leipzig
With an area of 78 hectares, the South Cemetery in the south of Leipzig is the largest burial ground in Leipzig and is ideal for long walks
Leipzig's largest cemetery is located near the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in the south of the city. Due to its area of 78 hectares and the mourning hall complex with crematorium and columbarium located on the grounds, the complex is considered one of the largest cemetery buildings in Germany. The complex of funeral halls consists of two smaller chapels and the large main hall with its 63-metre-high bell tower.
In addition to generously designed green areas, the cemetery contains numerous graves, some of them artistic, of important Leipzig personalities. For example, the Leipzig dialect poet Lene Voigt or the Baedecker publishing family. To date, a total of 560,000 Leipzig residents have been buried in the South Cemetery.

Going on a world tour together
In the heart of the city of Leipzig is the Leipzig Zoo, which is one of the most beautiful zoos in Germany and is considered one of the most species-rich zoos in Europe. Founded in 1878, the zoo provides a species-appropriate home for over 5000 animals from different regions of the world. Visitors can explore six different nature-based adventure worlds, an aquarium, a birdhouse, and the largest ape enclosure in the world. Throughout the day, animal feedings and explanations take place at selected enclosures.
Leipzig Zoo is ideal for family outings: the spacious enclosures offer the animals a pleasing amount of space and are designed in such a way that they are easy to see, even for small children. In addition, visitors can observe the animals from different levels. If you need a break from the animal experience, children can let off steam at the various playgrounds and play stations.
A special highlight at Leipzig Zoo is Gondwanaland, Europe's largest tropical hall, which can be navigated by boat and delights with different types of animals and plants. In high season, families can take the Safari Train and explore the Kiwara Village.
For animal-loving visitors and especially families, Leipzig Zoo is a worthwhile destination.

Creative art world
Leipzig's cotton mill was once the beating heart of contemporary art and culture, home to numerous artists, galleries and cultural institutions.
A variety of art exhibitions, performances and creative ideas can still be discovered in the converted factory buildings. With its rich history and dingy industrial charm, the Baumwollspinnerei never fails to captivate visitors.
A place that combines the past and the current art scene in a unique way.

Leipzig
Decisive battle
One of the city's most famous landmarks commemorates the historic Battle of the Nations against Napoleon in the fall of 1813. It was the largest military conflict of all time up to that point. It finally ended the supremacy of the French Emperor Napoleon, who had previously dominated large parts of Europe.
Today, after climbing 364 steps, you can enjoy a phenomenal panoramic view of Leipzig and the surrounding area, or get further spectacular insights into the events of the wars of liberation and their climax, the war-deciding Battle of the Nations near Leipzig, in the integrated museum "FORUM 1813".
