Augsburg
Oldest social housing estate in the world
The oldest surviving social housing estate in the world was founded by Jakob Fugger "the Rich" in 1521. Today, around 150 needy Catholic citizens of Augsburg live there. Fuggeri residents pay an annual (cold) rent of 0.88 euros for one of the 60 square meter apartments. In return, they are expected to say three prayers a day for the founder and the founder's family. The 67 houses, each with two apartments, are grouped around the eight alleys of the walled terraced housing estate, the gates of which are locked at night. After its destruction in 1944, the Fuggerei was immediately rebuilt and even extended once again. Several museums "tell" the story of the Fuggerei and its inhabitants: a memorial to the founder stands in the green area of the social housing estate. An inscription plaque commemorates the most prominent resident of the Fuggerei - Franz Mozart. The master bricklayer who died here in 1694 was the great-grandfather of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart.

Mithraeum in Königsbrunn - unique in Bavaria
Did you know that the Mithraeum in Königsbrunn is the only Roman Mithraic sanctuary from the 2nd/3rd century AD still preserved in Bavaria?
The cult of Mithras originated in Asia Minor. For his followers, Mithras, the victorious bull-slayer in Persian costume, was the ruler of the world, who ruled the universe from the outside... The cavernous, dark room in which the meetings were held symbolized the birth of Mithras in a cave.
The site, which is equipped with a protective structure, is open from March to October on the 4th Sunday of every month from 2 - 4 pm.
(Exception: closed on 26.05.).
