Cake in the most exotic café in town
The former commercial building was built in 1908 and 1909 on behalf of Riquet & Co. and was one of the most modern and original new buildings in Leipzig at the time. The two copper-driven elephant heads flanking the entrance door to the coffee house are the trademark of the Riquet company. Since its restoration, the listed interior of the corner store can once again be admired in all its beauty, and unfortunately none of the more than thirty coffee houses that once existed in Leipzig still exist. That is why the Riquet has been trying to revive the Leipzig coffee house tradition since 1996. With the Leipziger Lerche, the Kaffee Riquet, the Elefantenkaffee and the Pharisäer, real specialties are offered here.

From the roast to the cup
True to the motto "Life is too short for bad coffee", Franz Morish serves exceptional coffee varieties made by the in-house roaster. In addition to the caffeinated drinks, fresh salads, homemade sandwiches, hip superfood mueslis and delicious cakes made according to an old family recipe are also served. Here, industrial style meets sustainability, as the products are largely sourced directly from the region. And there is always an alternative for vegans too.

Viennese coffee enjoyment in the heart of Leipzig can be found at Café Grundmann. The coffee house has been operating under different names since 1919. But one thing has always remained the same: the cozy interior in typical Viennese style with wooden chairs and seating niches as well as the outstanding quality of the coffee and pastries. Whether for afternoon tea or an extended brunch on a Sunday morning, Café Grundmann not only has timeless classics on the menu, but also delicacies and specialties from all over the world. All orders are taken and served in proper style by the coffee house waiters. An all-round special experience.

French coffee tradition in "little Paris"
You can dine like God in France when you visit Café Maître on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. The French-style café lives up to its name and offers masterful cuisine from the neighboring country. Whether quiches, crêpes or macarons, the delicacies are made with great care in the in-house bakery and patisserie. And you can taste it. If you would like to take a piece of French indulgence home with you, you can buy them in the adjoining delicatessen.
Much of the Café Maître's interior dates back to the early years since its opening in 1906. The Art Nouveau interior with its ornate stained glass windows, coffee house furniture and cozy outdoor seating make a visit to the Maître the perfect laissez-faire experience.

Coffee grinder instead of meat grinder
For a long time, it was hard to imagine Leipzig's Wandstraßen district without the former Café Fleischerei. Now, however, there is a new coffee bar on the premises, which visitors and coffee lovers alike have taken a liking to. Café Dankbar, run by Toni Krätzer, combines the familiar flair of the butcher's shop with new stylistic elements. In addition to delicious coffee specialties, you can also enjoy wines, cakes, sweets, soups and a variety of tasty menus. Eat like Faust and Goethe!
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe set an important monument to the Auerbachs Keller with his drama "Faust". The historic restaurant consists of the "Großer Keller" restaurant, which serves classic, hearty Saxon cuisine, the "Mephisto Bar", which offers cocktails and live music, and the "Historische Weinstuben", which can be booked for groups of 20 people or more for special events in the four lovingly restored guest rooms.

From manor to natural oasis
A true oasis of relaxation stretches around the former Lützschena manor. Lützschena Castle Park was laid out in the 19th century by the von Sternburg family in the style of an English landscape garden. The park is home to many highlights such as the romantic Diana Temple, the banks of the Elster and Luppe rivers and a herd of alpacas, which are bred here in the Sternburg family tradition. The former farm building of the von Sternburg family is now also home to the "Auwaldstation" environmental education center. Lützschena Castle Park is a great place to explore on a long walk. You can also explore this natural gem by bike from Leipzig city center.
You can find a free park guide called "Auwald-Erlebnispfade" in the app stores (Google Play, Apple Store).

Walk along the Karl Heine Canal
Whether in the green of summer, surrounded by colorful autumn leaves, ice-covered water or full of flowers - the Karl Heine Canal is a very special highlight in the lively west of Leipzig at any time of year. The 3.3-kilometre-long canal was created artificially and invites you to take long walks along the banks, but you can also take a leisurely boat tour on Leipzig's waterways. Historic villas and modern industrial lofts will impress you on your exploration tour. Numerous quiet spots offer the ideal opportunity for a short break to relax. The steps at the Philippuskirche church are a particularly popular hotspot in summer for listening to the gentle lapping of the water and admiring the beauty of the canal.
