Schönfels Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Saxony and offers an unadulterated insight into a medieval fortification. Since the opening of the museum in 1975, it has been an integral part of the regional cultural landscape. The complex, consisting of a surrounding rampart and moat, outer bailey, lower bailey and main castle with keep, is uniquely preserved in its unity and originality.
