Time travel to the Middle Ages
Schönfels Castle is one of the most impressive castles in Saxony and offers an unadulterated insight into a medieval fortification. Since the opening of the museum in 1975, it has been an integral part of the regional cultural landscape. The complex, consisting of a surrounding rampart and moat, outer bailey, lower bailey and main castle with keep, is uniquely preserved in its unity and originality. Visit the museum and discover the historic rooms on a tour, such as the late Gothic plank room with its ogee arch door or the chapel with its unique wooden organ, climb the keep and be impressed by the castle as a building. One of the current tasks is the systematic architectural archaeological investigation of the complex.
As a visitor, you have the opportunity to observe these works and changes on site. The results are presented in lectures and presented in the museum. The museum also presents exhibitions on former owners and the everyday farming culture of the region. Numerous offers such as special exhibitions, concerts, lectures, museum educational offers and the annual craftsmen's and potters' market round off the offer.
