Cottbus
Way of glory
On the initiative of the German Olympic Society City Group Cottbus and with the support of Sparkasse Spree-Neiße, 56 plaques were embedded in the sidewalk in front of Cottbus City Hall, reminding residents and visitors of the great achievements of Cottbus Olympians.
The medals were made by artist Manfred Vollmert, who recreated gold, silver and bronze with brass, nickel silver and copper and engraved the medal winner, venue and year as well as the sport and discipline in each case.

Cottbus
Art in transition
The Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art (BLMK) is home to the largest collection of art from the GDR and the artistic traditions that followed. The museum, with its two locations in Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder), does not see its task solely in the preservation of the works. Its intention is to place the works in an international context and to make them readable in new contexts. Even more: the BLMK sees its work as a contribution to the discussion about the concept and understanding of modernity. In Cottbus, the BLMK is located in the former diesel power plant. Through its events and educational programs, the museum is a lively institution, locally anchored and at the same time received on a supra-regional level.

Cottbus
Artful diversity
The place for contemporary art from Lusatia. Since 2019, Kunsthalle Lausitz has been presenting young and emerging talents alongside renowned and established artists from Lusatia in the historic building of the Großenhain train station in Cottbus. It has become one of the most important addresses of the art scene in Cottbus and the surrounding area and shows the diversity and quality of art from our region in changing exhibitions.

Cottbus
Centenary cultural experience
A careful refurbishment and restoration let the over 100-year-old historic movie theater (opening on October 4, 2011) shine and shine again. The historic cinema hall is particularly impressive. The new building with its barrier-free access as well as two additional cinema halls, a roof terrace and the film bar complete the ensemble. A modern cultural "multigenerational house" has been created, located in the middle of the city center.
