Flensburg
As many shoes as legends.
Honestly? There aren't many trends that originate in Flensburg - but "Shoefiti" is one of them. That's the name given to the phenomenon in which shoes are tied together and thrown over branches, lines or cables. And this in a city that is otherwise better known for swing tops on beer bottles.
High above the otherwise rather "boring" Norderstraße they hang - sneakers, rubber boots, sandals. Shoes of all kinds that have one thing in particular in common: the old overhead wire of the former Flensburg streetcar from which they dangle.
Where they come from, no one knows exactly, only that there have been more and more in recent years. So many, in fact, that the Christmas decorations finally had to give way and the Nordertor (once Flensburg's secret landmark and located on the same street) was left with only an extra role in city tours.
By the way, the shoes have been dangling there since 2007. And anyone who now wonders (as the Flensburg citizens' assembly did) who will pay for the damage should a passerby be "struck dead" by a worn-out shoe;
After a long discussion, an insurance broker from that very Norderstraße was found, who has since assumed the risk of the hanging slippers.
