Ulm
In the field of tension between old and new
The modern townhouse is located in the heart of Ulm, right next to the world-famous Gothic cathedral. After more than 100 years of struggle for the prominent place in the middle of the city, it was built by the city of Ulm for its citizens. Designed by the American architect Richard Meier, it is a fascinatingly light-flooded place that is dynamic in terms of architecture and content.
The interplay of styles, created by the immediate vicinity of the cathedral and the Stadthaus, is reflected in the programme of the Stadthaus: it is committed to tradition as well as modernity. Seven days a week, it is open to the citizens of Ulm as well as visitors from all over the world with free admission. At the beginning of 2019, it was added to the list of monuments of the state of Baden-Württemberg as a cultural monument of special importance.
In the hall on the first level, numerous discussion forums and information events, concerts, readings and lectures, training courses and much more take place. This results in a program that is oriented towards the currents of the present and changes daily.
