From the shore, you can admire and marvel at the huge container ships, entire floating cities and cruise ships. The Rendsburg railway bridge with the suspension bridge installed beneath it is also a unique and one-of-a-kind structure that shows the full skill of the engineers. In order to be able to admire the ocean giants comfortably and conveniently from the shore, the people of Rendsburg were missing a bench from which to do so. In order for a particularly large number of people to be able to enjoy this unique view at the same time, a particularly long bench was needed. In 1989, some resourceful people from Rendsburg built a 501.53-meter-long bench that could accommodate 1,594 people. The bench held the record as the longest bench in the world until 2007 and was replaced by Thuringia. They were then replaced in 2012 by the Swiss, who built a bench 1,000 meters long. The people of Rendsburg did not give up on the record hunt and started planning again. The mayor at the time, Pierre Gilgenast, took over the patronage, but without the residents such a project would not have been possible. The local tradesmen got to work: Thomsen Tiefbau, Heinrich Tepker, master carpenter Böhrnsen and their apprentices created the fascinating structure on the bank of the canal. Sponsored by the district tradesmen's association, the bench was built to an incredible length of 575.75 meters. The inauguration took place on September 19, 2014. Mr. Kuchenbecker from the German Record Institute had arrived with a tape measure to make sure that the incredible length of the bench was correct. 871 children sat down on the bench to great cheers and greeted every passing boat with loud enthusiasm. The record was broken again! It stands on the western bank of the canal in the narrow area of land between the canal and the river Eider. Make yourself comfortable on the world record holder, watch the clouds passing by, enjoy the fresh air and marvel at the ocean giants on their journey to the world's oceans!

Where a swing bridge once crossed the Kiel Canal, there is now a pedestrian tunnel in the immediate vicinity. At the end of the 1950s, the swing bridge could no longer cope with the growing ship and road traffic. Within a few years, the swing bridge became a real traffic obstacle, as it was open more often than closed. At peak times, motorized traffic in the south came to a standstill until just before Jevenstedt, and in the north, cars lined up as far as the Rüdel barracks (later Feldwebel Schmidt barracks), with traffic routing right through Rendsburg.

At lofty heights, the ferry gondola floats majestically above the canal as you glide gently across. This is where the history of technology comes to life: a unique interplay of steel construction and water that takes you back in time. The printing museum has an impressive collection of typesetting and printing technology that has been created since the 1970s. On 600 m², it shows the technological and social-historical development of the last 200 years: from hand typesetting and historical printing presses to photo typesetting and modern computer typesetting technology. The highlight is the fully functional book printing machines, which can be seen in action during demonstrations, including the legendary Heidelberg platen and the magnificent Frankenthal high-speed press. A bookbinding workshop, an offset printing exhibition and interactive information terminals complete the offering, which fascinates not only experts.

A unique collection of historical rarities awaits you in the former administrative building of Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG (SH Netz). Highlights include a razor belonging to actor Hans Albers, an illuminated darning egg belonging to Konrad Adenauer and the smallest tube radio in the world, the "Knirps". The exhibition, designed by the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel, sheds light on the technical and social history of Art Nouveau. This era comes to life in rooms designed true to the original, such as living rooms, music rooms and children's rooms. The impressive brick building from 1920 was designed by the renowned architect Fritz Höger.
