Schiffweiler
En dag på Itzenplitzer Weiher
Itzenplitz-minen, der ligger i Schiffweiler-distriktet Heiligenwald, var i drift fra 1856 til 1935. Itzenplitz-mineensemblet består af et skakthejsesystem, et hejsemaskinhus, et skiftehus og det ældste overlevende rebskivestillads i Saar-minedrift. Den nærliggende Itzenplitzer Weiher har altid bevaret den tilsyneladende idyl fra den foregående minedrift og fungerer i dag som et lokalt rekreativt område for vandrere, stavvandrere, cyklister, ryttere og lystfiskere. Vandmassen er indlejret i et omfattende netværk af vandrestier og i en stavgangspark og er et af de mest vellykkede eksempler på en omfattende og vellykket omdannelse af et område, der tidligere blev brugt til minedrift, til et attraktivt lokalt rekreativt område. Et blikfang, der er værd at se, er Pumpenhaus, idyllisk beliggende ved dammen, som ikke kun betragtes som en teknisk sjældenhed og unik i Tyskland, men også imponerende beviser, at industribygninger kan være æstetisk tiltalende.
